NHIA chief warns staff against colluding with providers to overcharge members

The chief executive of the National Health Insurance Authority (NHIA), Dr Victor Bampoe, said any NHIA staff found colluding with health service providers to defraud National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS) members will be dismissed and prosecuted, MyJoyOnline reported on 3 November 2026. He spoke at the commissioning of a new NHIS district office complex at Ejura in the Ashanti Region.

Dr Bampoe said some health facilities charge NHIS members illegal out-of-pocket payments for services the scheme covers, and that the Authority is strengthening its monitoring and enforcement systems to protect subscribers and public confidence in the scheme. "I will send you straight home plus whatever sanction and prosecution," he said.
